Spring is over and Summer is here!!
Spring is over and Summer is here!!
I just finished up my last final on Saturday. It was my Global and Business Practice Course. It was a departmental final, so all students that took the class had to all take it at the same time, same day. A couple of classes from the Business school tend to have finals on Saturday. I had a friend that had three finals on Saturday. She had a Finance final, Accounting Final, and Global Business Final. Fortunately she was able to talk to her advisor and she only had to take two of the finals and take her last one on Monday.
I think I did well on my finals, I know for sure I made an A in my Business Communication class, and probably B’s in my other classes (Global Business, Business Analysis, and HR in Hospitality). So now I’m free with finals. I get to take a break for one month and start taking summer classes in June.
With the ending of this semester, I know many students are graduating as well. I have a couple of friends that are graduating this semester and going on to greater and better things. I have one that will be heading to Graduate school, one heading over to Japan to teach, and another just got a great job. I’m so excited for them; I wish them the best of luck. (I’ll have pictures from commencement soon. Commencement is on May 10th.) For me, I still have about 2 more semesters left, just 10 classes to go and I’m done with my undergraduate degree. After graduating, I’m planning to go to Graduate school for Higher Education! I can’t wait!
I’m only taking one class this summer, but I do have lots of plans. INCEPT is this summer, I will be participating with parts of that as well as still being a tour guide for campus. INCEPT is NEW Student Orientation. So any students that have been accepted to campus will be attending Orientation. INCEPT is required for all incoming freshmen, but highly recommended for Transfer students. Students will be well acquainted with the campus as well as get a feel of student life. Students will be able to meet an academic advisor as well as register for classes. During lunch time for INCEPT, students will be able to have a sneak peak of various student organizations offered here at GSU. This is where I will be working at. I will be behind one of the tables for my sorority as well as for Multicultural Greek Council. We also have other student organizations that will be represented so students can choose what to get involved with. I hope to see and meet many incoming students at INCEPT.
Speaking of Greeks, We do have about 21 sororities and fraternities for students to choose from and get involved. What better way to enjoy college life while you’re here than getting involved and enjoying your academics!!
Last week, we just took some Greek Unity pictures. Below are some pictures (I’m in some of them).

Multicultural Greek Council Members, Gamma Sigma Sigma, Delta Phi Lambda, Lambda Theta Alpha, and Theta Nu Xi.

Some of us just having some fun taking pictures together UNITY!

Some more pictures, can I’m on the far left with my eyes closed.. can you spot in the other pictures??

Picture of past and present Inceptors that are Greek…I’m in this one too.
Spring Update!!
Spring Semester is half way over. We just came back from Spring Break. Many of my friends went to Florida to have a nice relax break under the sun at the beach. Some other friends attended Alternative Spring Break (ASB) sponsored by the Office of Civic Engagement. ASB – gives students the opportunity to spend their spring break productively, building our communities. I believe this year they went to Louisiana to help the community of the Katrina victims.
Spring Semester is going great. Two weeks ago we celebrated home coming week themed “there’s no place like home.” We had a fun filled week planned, which included the home coming basketball game, office decorating contest, home coming court, and even a parade. Below are some highlights of the week.
2008 Homecoming King and Queen
Followed by homecoming, our campus also celebrated our groundbreaking for new housing. New housing will be for freshmen students and also for sororities and fraternities. We had special guest like Mayor Franklin which assisted in breaking grounds. So look forward to brand new housing opening soon at Georgia State University. http://www2.gsu.edu/~wwwexa/news/archive/general/08_0227-HousingGroundbreaking.htm. Below is a picture of me with the Mayor from the ground breaking:

With all the excitement and the festivities taking place on campus, I hope that it has influenced many of you to attend Georgia State University. I hope that this is the place for you to be and continue your education. Once you have applied for the university and have been accepted, make sure you attend ORIENTATION. Orientation here at Georgia State University is called INCEPT. Incept is mandatory for freshmen students, and highly recommended for transfer students.
With Incept, we formally Welcome you to the University. It is an all day event, which will allow you to meet various professors and staff members, meet your future classmates, receive academic advisement, tour the campus, and register for classes. We make sure you will be ready as you begin your first class here at the University. Below is a link you can visit to get more information about INCEPT: www.gsu.edu/incept.
Fall back Spring Foward
Fall semester is now over, Spring semester is here.
Fall semester was interesting. I aced all of my classes, yay me!! Granted I did have a lot on my plate as well as many student organization involvements, but it’s all about time management and that motivation to graduate.
It was truly sad to see many of my friends graduate this fall, but then I am happy for them. They have completed a chapter of their lives and starting another chapter. Many are going into graduate school and others are heading straight to the career field. For me in the other hand is still working on graduating. I’m crossing my fingers and hope to finish up by Fall of 2008.
Fall 2007 Graduation was truly an amazing graduation. Georgia State University held it’s first graduation at the Georgia Dome. It was truly an experience to watch those graduate walk and graduate. There was a grand finale with grafitti. Below are some pictures of the ceremony. Congrats to the class of 2007 !
Well, Fall semester is behind us, before us now is Spring Semester. I’m so excited. I am taking 6 classes. YES, I know another full plate, but hey..I’m motivated. I’m excited of this semester because we have many events planned such as homecoming and awards. Most of all, I’m another step toward to graduation.
Leadership!
It’s mid way of Fall Semester. It seems like this semester is going by so fast. I guess when I’m enjoying the semester, it just goes by so quickly…I just don’t want the fun to end. This semester, I am taking about 4 classes and also working for the Welcome Center as a tour guide for the University. I have about 3 midterms this week, so I am cramming and hoping to do well. Academically, I am doing pretty good this semester. Socially, not too bad either.
Last weekend, I attended a conference hosted by the Office of Student Life and Leadership called Leadership Conclave. This conference is one of Georgia State Tradtions since 1965. This is my second year attending this conference. Georgia State not only develop students academically, but also develop students leadership abilities. Leadership Conclave is a day full of activities which help students to build their leadership skills through various seminars, activities, networking, and eachother. It was a fun day for me and I bet for other students that attended as well.
I attended one session which spoke about the field of Student Affairs of Higher Education. This field is the field that I would like to be involved with once I graduate. I would love to work with students in Universities and help them to develop and fulfill their academic as well as student life experience. There were various staff memebers that were already working in the field spoke about their experience and why they chose that field. Certain positions that are under the field is Dean of Students, VP of Student Affairs, Aacademic Advisors, career counselors, residence hall director, and a whole lot more.
It “opened my mind to new possibilities.” I met other student leaders on campus and took some really good notes and tips from experienced leaders. It was truly a weekend well spent.
My tip for the week: Get involved, become a leader. What better place to learn your leadership skills and get first hand experience at being a leader than during your college years? Through your college years, you will meet a lot of people that would give you amazing tips and opportunites to grow and develop as an individual. It’s a great way to network and have a head start in reaching your future goals.

Blast from the Past Spring ‘07
Since January; Spring semester 2007, I managed to finish up the semester with 2 A’s and 2 B’s….Not too bad. My sorority received the Citizenship award and was recognized as one of the finalist for Outstanding Chapter of the Year. I am now the upcoming President for the sorority (Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc.). I have so much planned for Fall Semester. I know I have a lot on my plate; it’s going to be so much FUN. Please enjoy the pictures below from various events that took place in the Spring.
Below is a picture of my sorority and I back at the award reception with our other awards.

Picture of a typical day in the Plaza, we’re just getting ready for the Greek Week Stroll off.
We also partnered up with Delta Sigma Theta to do a Stroll off during Greek Week in the Spring. It was so much fun. Below is also a picture.

to do or not to do
Classes are going pretty well so far. Everthing is great. My classes and involvements have slowed down a little this week. Slow down in the way that I was kinda bored in class….
I kinda fell asleep in one of my classes. I noticed that I couldn’t keep my eyes open and was agreeing to everything my professor was saying–(meaning that I was just nodding away the class period). My friend next to me and classmates behind me did nothing but laughed. After a short while, I did wake up and noticed that I dosed off and class was over. Looking around… I was like I need coffee.
To Do or not to do: My advice DO NOT SLEEP in class. As tired as you may be, keep those eyes open and stay focus in class and save the embarrassments. Besides, your bed at home will be way more confortable then sitting in the chairs in a the lecture hall.
Next week, I have three exams. Two on Tuesday and One on Thursday. Tuesday, I also have my New Year’s Celebration event from 11- 2 for the Chinese New Year. My sorority and Intercultural Relations are hosting this event. It’s going to be a free event with free food and Welcome to Everyone. YAY..free food.
Getting Involved and back to school
Spring semester has started up; It’s been two weeks into the semester. It’s good to be back taking classes again. I was getting pretty bored after the winter break. Since the semester started, I’ve been so busy with classes and various university activities that I haven’t had the time to post on the blog. I finally now found some time to share my week life so far.
If you don’t know already, I’m a busy body. I am very much involved with campus life here at Georgia State. There is so much to do here. We have over 200 student organizations and like 24 sororities and fraternities, and not to mention other activities and events that takes place just in Atlanta. It’s awesome!!1. I try to make my University life the best experience ever; after all I won’t be in college forever. My way of thinking is live this college life to the fullest, take advantage of those things that are offered here and once I graduate, I have something to look back to and say that I enjoyed college.
I like being involved, because it is an awesome way to network with peers, administrators, and other business people in the “real world.” I am also interested in studying in Higher Education and get more into Student affairs; what better way is being involved.
On January 9th, as a 1913 Society member, I attended the leadership legislation Appreciation Night. This takes place the day after the legislatives get inaugurated in the State Capital to show our appreciation to them. At the event, the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and the Speaker of the House were all present.
Below is a picture of me and other fellow members of 1913 Society smiling with Governor Perdue.
Then this past weekend, Martin Luther King Weekend, my sorority had our Midyear Convention in Orlando, FL. Me and other members of the sorority drove to Florida and met other chapters around the nation. It was great!! I met sisters and went to various workshops for the sorority. I highly recommend students to go Greek when they attend College. In college is the only time you could join a sorority or a fraternity. And I think that it just gives you the full experience of college life, and also to have someone and a group to turn to when you need someone to lean on. There are a variety of Greeks out there, and you just have to find the one that best fits you. And YES Georgia State University DOES have Greek Life here!!
Below are some pictures of me and my sorority sisters in Florida.
This picture of me and Jennifer on the road to Florida (pointing at something funny). University of Central Florida Welcoming sign for us.
To the right is our chapter President, and to the right is ME..I’m the chapter Vice President

Just us taking some random pictures after our Educational Workshops!

Group picture of at the Convention. Can you find me?

Besides the involvements and the activities, my classes are going GREAT! I’m taking 5 classes this semester; all in which I do not have to wake up until around 11am for the first class. True, I have somewhat a full plate; still I will have to balance my activities and classes. If I don’t’ do well in classes, then I won’t be able to be involved. So I have to do well in those classes, besides I do want to graduate too, therefore, I will have to do well. It’s mainly comes down to TIME MANAGEMENT
Well I need to study for my quiz, so I’ll stop here for now.
Why I chose Georgia State University?
Senior year in high school, i applied for 3 different collges…and Georgia State University was one of them. I did get accepted to all three of these universities. One of which I recieved a full scholarship;I turned that college down because it was out of state. Then the other, I turned down because I had to stay in the dorms. Then what’s left was Georgia State University. I come from a very traditional Asian family. Me being the youngest in the family and being a female, my parents did not allow me to go out of state nor to stay in dorms. They want their little girl to stay at home with them. So…Georgia State University was not too close to my house, but far enough that I can get away from the house and be a college student. It all work out, I go to school during the day and go home at night and spend time with my family. Georgia State gave me a choice of staying on campus or to stay at home.
I also chose Georgia State because of their Biology and Nursing program. I have always been interested in the medical field, and with my cousins graduating from Georgia State with those two degrees, I was geared to follow their footsteps.
After some real work experiences with Biology and volunteering in the hospital shadowing nurses, I realized that those fields were not me. I decided to change my major to Business Management. With Georgia State university being ranked as one of the top business schools in the nation, I’m already at the right place to get my degree in Business. The professors are great. If we need extra assistance, they have office hours that we can drop by to get help. Georgia State University have many degree options that I can choose from.
Georgia State University is an Urban campus in the heart of Atlanta. There is always something to do here, eat, live, have fun, and learn. It is also a very diverse campus. You can walk around and see so many people from so many backgrounds and from all around the world.
I love it. Georgia State University was the right choice for me.
